Indian Scout Sixty – My New Bike and All The Mods

I am back on a motorcycle after a hiatus of over 25 years. Baseless fears had kept me from getting back on one for over two decades. Not anymore, today the best thing in my life is a 2020 Indian Scout Sixty.

The Best Things In Life Are On The Other Side Of Fear“.

As a kid in India, I started riding motorcycles around 11 or 12. It was a way of life…

That is until my move to the United States.

Despite my love for riding, I never rode a motorcycle again for over 25 years. Everyone dissuaded me to do so due to the inherent dangers. Therefore, I missed out on all the fun…

Until now!

Freedom – A short cinematic film and first look at the new 2020 Indian Scout Sixty

“Bagheera” – 2020 Indian Scout Sixty

The 2020 Indian Scout Sixty is my chosen ride. What appealed to me most is the classic styling that retains the aesthetics of a proper old school motorcycle without all the fancy electronics but current with today’s modern technology.

Simple yet modern!

Having never seen the motorcycle in person much less take it for a test ride, I decided to go down to the dealership to look and ended buying one on the spot!

Best decision ever!

I had spent countless hours prior to the purchase envisioning exactly how the bike would look. I knew what mods I needed to customize the motorcycle to my liking, consequently, here are the results.

Modifications

The following are all the mods I have done to-date, she is still a work in progress. Perhaps this will inspire another rider to work on his/her Scout.

The beach bar handlebar provides a classic retro style to the bike and a very comfortable riding position.

The original OEM exhaust is lackluster to say the least, hence I opted for the Vance & Hines Twin Slash 3-inch slip-ons which makes the Scout’s aggressive double overhead cam engine roar to life. Watch the clip below with a pair of good headphones to truly appreciate the soundtrack.

The Indian 1901 Low Fly Windscreen provides a sporty look though I do not believe it provides any relief from the wind, it is strictly for aesthetics.

Additionally, I upgraded the OEM halogen headlight to the Indian Scout Pathfinder LED headlight. Especially if you ride at night not only does it provide better illumination but also looks sick.

Storage & Carry

The Pony Express Saddlebags from “The Leatherworks” based out of Stockton, California are perhaps the best handcrafted bags in my opinion.

They are designed specifically for the Indian Scout and have a range of choices regarding fitment. I chose the “Easy Brackets” which come with locks to safely secure the saddlebags to the motorcycle. Additionally, you can customize the bags to your liking with myriad of options.

The attention to details and superb craftsmanship make this addition a complimentary upgrade for the final look of the bike.

The National Cycle Paladin Fender-Mount Solo Luggage Rack is a much better choice, Why? Unlike the Indian OEM luggage rack, it seamlessly follows the curvature of the fender and matches the stainless-steel grab rail of the 1920 Solo Rider Saddle Seat. Aside from the functionality it also provides a great aesthetics to the bike.

ROCKFORM Pro Series Motorcycle Bar Mount made of CNC machined 6061 T6 aircraft grade aluminum is a perfect and secure phone holder.

Decorative Hardware

One of the reason to customize the bike apart from functionality is to personalize it to our taste and make it unique. As such I added contrast cut Billet Aluminum Primary Engine Cover, Billet Aluminum Stator Engine Cover and Billet Aluminum Master Cylinder Cover Set.

Rabbit ears, be gone!

Swapping the standard rabbit ear mirrors to the bar end mirrors completely changed the profile of the bike. However, bear in mind, this comes with its own set of disadvantages. The mirrors will hit the tank and your legs. I find myself constantly adjusting my stance and moving the mirrors when making u-turns.

Finally, the bike is bespoke and 100% American; all the mods on the bike are made in the USA thus retaining its authenticity and heritage.
